Marietta Girls Run To 7A Title At Carrollton

The girls team from Marietta put four runners in the top 13 of the GHSA Class 7A cross country final to win the state title with 49 points on Saturday at Carrollton. 

Marietta is ranked third by DyeStat in the Southeast region and has a chance to qualify for Nike Cross Nationals. 

Brynne Sumner of Woodstock won the 7A girls race in 18:36.4, just ahead of Marietta's Ellie Hall (18:39.1). 

East Coweta junior Kyle Harkabus won the 7A boys race in 16:08.55 on the challenging, hilly course.

South Forsyth put four runners between 11th and 24th to cinch the team title. 

On Friday, Jalen Murray of Richmond Hill ran 15:58.5 to claim the 6A boys individual victory. Jack Filan of Cambridge was second in 16:00. 

Pope scored 51 points for the boys 6A team tite. The Cambridge girls also won, with 64 points. 

Makena Gates of Creekview ran 18:48.3 to win the 6A race.

The Starr's Mill boys and Woodland girls won the Class 5A team titles in races won by Dominic Macias of Union Grove (16:35.9) and McKenna Trapheagen of Woodland (19:07). 

St. Pius X Catholic put four in the top eight to capture the 4A boys team title with 28 points. Kathleen Maley led Marist to the girls title with her individual win in 19:22.2.

Westminster was the story at the 3A level. The boys packed 5-6-7-11-16 to win. The girls went 1-4-5-10-29. Naima Turbes ran 19:01 for one of the top times overall on the girls side.

The Bleckley County girls went 2-3-4-9 on the way to a big win in the 2A race. Union County overcame Armuchee 86-97 to win the boys title.

Jackie Addy from Holy Innocents won the 1A Private race in 19:02.8.
